Notice: Proposed Change to DBBO Constitution
Per the Dunham Baseball Organization's Constitution, the Secretary of the Board is posting the following Notice of a Proposed Amendment to the Constitution. Any comments must be received in writing via email to the DBBO Board at dunhamboysbaseball@gmail.com. Thank you.
I, Andy Hanacek, propose the following changes to the DBBO Constitution in order to make abundantly clear the organization’s intentions with regard to the relationship between House and Travel programs. DBBO has always operated with these tenets in place, however, they have never been “in writing.” This proposal attempts to solve that issue.
These changes make additions to two Articles in the Constitution and a slight alteration of Article 4 to clarify the Eligibility standard already stated there. The rest of the proposal is an addendum to the current articles. I also propose adding this to the Constitution rather than the bylaws, as it is one of the key tenets of the organization and has been for more than a decade (at least). Thank you for your consideration of this proposal.
Proposal:
- Add the following language to Article 3 — Structure:
- DBBO’s youth baseball program shall consist of two connected programs each season: House Baseball and Travel Baseball.
- Change to Article 4 — Membership (add the copy in red, bold, underline):
- Eligibility: Any person sincerely interested in active participation to further the objective of DBBO may apply to become a member of the House Baseball program.
- Add the following language to Article 4 — Membership:
- For members to be eligible to participate in the Travel Baseball program, they must be a participating, registered member of DBBO’s House Baseball program during that season. This applies to any Travel player whose league age for the season is 12 years old or younger. Travel players whose league age is 13 or older may opt out of playing House baseball.
- Participation in the House program (attending House games, specifically) takes precedence over Travel program attendance for any player whose league age for that season is 12 or under.
- The Travel Commissioner and Travel Committee will work with the Travel coaches to schedule games, practices and other events (i.e., tournaments) in support of the above requirements. Travel program coaches should NOT schedule any tournaments or games in conflict with House program games at any time, nor should they penalize any player for attending House Baseball games at any time.
